Plato Collection The Republic the Apology Crito and Symposium Audible Audio Edition Plato Kevin Kollins Combray Media Books Reviews

  • The Complete writings of Plato is absolutely essential reading for All of Western Society and certainly for all those needing a philosophical foundation to build upon, through their journey to enlightenment! And this particular Digital Edition comes in a beautifully convenient format with a functional table of contents that makes it very easy, convenient and ultimately ridiculously economical to behold!
  • Plato is one of the pivatol philosophers of Western Culture. Moreover without Plato there would be no Christainity as we know.
  • Great mind in any age.
  • An excellent read on my ! Thanks!
  • I enjoy reading and contemplating the great philosophers, and this compilation of Plato's works from e-artnow is outstanding; it is handsomely formatted, complete, bargain-priced, and has an active TOC that easily takes readers directly to all content. But despite its merits, this ebook has one disappointing flaw. Nowhere is the translator identified, nowhere is the "I" of the prefaces mentioned by name, and nowhere is credit given to the author of the informative introductions preceding each work. These all happen to be done by one and the same person BENJAMIN JOWETT. Even though this ebook's entire content (both Plato's and Jowett's) is in the public domain, in all fairness it behooves the publisher to identify and properly credit Jowett; this is a piece of information every prospective purchaser of this book should want to know, and which neither the blurb nor the book itself provides. Only by comparing this ebook to OTHER Plato collections properly crediting Jowett was I able to determine he was also responsible for this one. That omission is what caused me to deduct one star from what would otherwise be a five-star collection.

ADDENDUM I have discovered that an earlier (and still available) e-artnow edition, DID identify Jowett on the title-page but embarrassingly misspelled his name with an "l" as "Jowlett." Rather than correct the misspelling in this subsequent edition, e-artnow simply removed the name altogether. That explains, but doesn't excuse, its current absence, and Jowett's name should be replaced (properly spelled) to bring this edition up to e-artnow's usually high standards.
  • I am always surprised at how humorous Plato's writing is, but increasingly, although his influence of Western culture has been so huge, how wrong he was.
